A Family Reunion Vacation can be affordable! Because of the many generations of families and our rough economic times, here are a few pointers to help everyone’s pocketbooks and keep up that ever so important Family Reunion Vacation tradition.
- Plan ahead – booking 1 to 2 years in advance will most likely get you this year’s price instead of the new pricing for the next year.
- Go mid week – most vacation areas lower their rates for Sunday thru Thursday night stays. ï,© Ask about extra Night Discounts for longer stays. Most places will discount for more nights that two.
- Stay in a place with full kitchen and barbeque facilities. Put a family member or two in charge of planning meals so you can buy in bulk and save big money.
- Open a Family Reunion interest earning checking account so family members can deposit money monthly like a savings account. The impact of the vacation is a lot less if you pay monthly instead of one lump sum. Assign one family member to pay for services (lodging, food, entertainment, etc.) from this account.
- Consider renting a large passenger van if you have offsite adventures. Everyone can be together and you save on gas. You’d be surprised how reasonable the vans are to rent and how fun it is to all ride together.
- Pack an ice chest with drinks, snacks and lunches for outings. Since you’ve bought food in bulk, it’s very inexpensive to pack your own food. Plus you can custom meals for “picky” tastes.
- Buy and Label large Paper or Plastic Cups so everyone has their own cup for drinks. Saves on dish washing, money for buying cups, and is more environmentally friendly. You can even get colored sharpie pens and get creative on the cups.
- Powered drinks save money and most are healthier than sodas.
- Recycle and put into the fund for the next Family Reunion
